Eliza "Lyda" Burton Conley

Eliza Burton "Lyda" Conley was an Wyandot-American lawyer of Native American and European descent, the first woman admitted to the Kansas Bar Association. She was notable for her campaign to prevent the sale and development of the Huron Cemetery in Kansas City, now known as the Wyandot National Burying Ground.

Sarah Wood is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and graduated from Fort Gibson High School in 2018 and is attending Northeastern State University. In high school she was a member of the Native American Student Association and the Native American Honors Society. At NSU, she is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and the NSU College Democrats Organization. Sarah is an American Indian Studies major with my concentration being in sovereignty, health, and current issues and a double minor in History and Political Science. She is currently working as a student worker at the Department of Public Safety at Northeastern State University. Sarah plans to continue her education by pursuing a Master’s Degree in American Studies. She is passionate about Native American History, politics, research and women’s history.

Osiyo! My name is Sarah Wood and I am a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, and I am from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. I graduated from Fort Gibson High School in 2018 and I will graduate from Northeastern State University (NSU) in the Spring of 2022.
