We are proud to welcome Choctaw historic preservationist, Jennifer Byram, for the next unique edition of Creative Visions! In Creative Visions: Reawakening Chahta Nan Tvnna: Choctaw Traditional Textiles, we will go over the story of Choctaw textiles and process a Southeastern native fiber plant together. Creative Visions will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at 5:30 PM. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to learn how textiles were put to use by those before us and create your own with guidance from an expert!

This class comes out of Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Historic Preservation work with our community to reawaken Chahta nan tvnna, Choctaw textiles. For the first time in over 200 years, the Choctaw people are creating textile work based on practices from the 1700’s and earlier, bringing the identity of Chahta nan tvnna to new generations of Choctaw artisans.

Jennifer Byram is a Choctaw textile artist and serves as a research assistant in the Historic Preservation Department of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. There she runs the Choctaw Traditional Textiles monthly workshops and promotes native Southeastern textiles through her continued research and presentations. Jennifer received her master’s in Visual, Material, and Museum Anthropology from the University of Oxford and her bachelors from Franklin University Switzerland.
